Although all those who know us, know that we love children, this house is not suitable for toddlers. We apologize that Hawk's Nest cannot accommodate families with children under 5 years of age.
Relax at Hawk's Nest. Go for a paddle in a canoe or kayak, where you'll listen to the loons calling across the water, and watch the bald eagles soaring above the tree tops. You can take a short drive to Skowhegan, the County Seat of Somerset County, and home of the country's oldest country fair. Also nearby, the City of Bangor is the home of Paul Bunyun, birthplace of the brownie, and host to the American Folk Festival for 3 days every August. If you are looking farther afield, you will enjoy easy access to the coast, with Belfast, Rockland, Camden, and Acadia National Park all within a 2 hour drive. Mt Kathadin, and the Moosehead Lake Region are a bit farther to the north.
If ice fishing is your thing, don't miss the Hartland Volunteer Fire Department's Fishing Derby. Held in February, the derby attracts as many as 100 fishermen to the area for a weekend that culminates with a weigh-in and awarding of cash prizes and a raffle drawing for all ticket holders. No fishing license is needed for this event. Call Erin Rhoda at:(207) 612-2368 for info
